What You Should Prepare For

If you happen to have long-term or chronic pain that does not ease up, something you could consider trying is physical therapy. It will not only make you stronger and help you to feel better, it will also improve your range of motion. Before you decide that physical therapy is the best path for you, we want to make sure that we are providing you with the information you need on what to expect. Certain activities that may be included in your treatment plan could include low impact aerobic training, strength exercises, and other exercises and stretches, all which you may have to do. Every activity prescribed is done so with a purpose, so that you can get back on your feet and resume your daily activities.

What Does a Physical Therapist Do?

One of our experienced physical therapists will analyze your chart to see if you have any long-term illnesses or other factors that need urgent attention. In this case, they will then have you perform a number of different movements so that they can assess your range of motion when you bend, reach, and grasp. The physical therapist will also be checking to see how well you can walk or climb steps, review your balance or posture, as well as monitor the rhythm of your heartbeat while you are active. After the assessment is complete, you will be explained which treatment plan is best for you. This can include exercises, stretches, and even personal goals that you may want to achieve.

On most occasions, the treatment that you need may include the following elements:

  • Stretches or exercises that are guided by a therapist chosen for you

  • Rehab to help teach you how to use artificial limbs.

  • Teach you how to use a cane or walker to help you move and stay balanced.

Throughout this entire process, your assigned therapist will be working with you and will monitor how you are progressing, while making sure that they adjust your treatments accordingly so that you can have the best possible outcome.
