Wrist Tendonitis
Definition
Tendonitis occurs when a tendon is inflamed form overuse. Muscles that cross your wrist and attach to your thumb may also become inflamed.
Mechanism of Injury
Repetitive use such as: throwing, catching, bowling, typing, sewing, or playing tennis.
Symptoms
- Pain with repetitive activity
- Tender to the touch
- Swelling around the irritated tendon
Physical Therapy Intervention
Rec Center Physical Therapy can be the first line of defense for those suffering from wrist tendonitis by offering treatments that can assist in resolving wrist tendonitis through splinting, decreasing inflammation through modalities, soft tissue mobilization, increasing flexibility and restoring decreased strength. The patient is educated on prevention of reoccurrence once the tendonitis is resolved.
