Pronator Syndrome
Definition
Compression of the median nerve by the forearm muscles. Similar to carpal tunnel syndrome except location and it is an on/off phenomenon.
Mechanism of Injury
Symptoms usually occur with use of forearm muscles for powerful gripping, especially twisting activities.
Symptoms
- Deep ache in the forearm with radiation down toward the wrist and hand
- Numbness can occur in the thumb, index, long, and ring fingers
- A feeling of weakness is present
- Increased symptoms with forceful gripping and twisting
