Wrist Pain / Strain

Definition

A strain results when the ligaments within the wrist joint are stretched and perhaps torn.

Mechanism of Injury

The wrist is frequently bent backward or a fall onto the palms of the hand.

Symptoms

  • Swelling in the wrist
  • Pain at the time of injury
  • Persistent pain when wrist is moved
  • Bruising/skin discoloration
  • Tenderness at site of injury
  • A feeling of popping or tearing inside of wrist
  • A warm feeling to the skin
