Arthritis of Hand
Definition
Degeneration of joints in the wrist and hand. This can occur in multiple sites.
Mechanism of Injury
Loss of cartilage secondary to disease of trauma. The body attempts to make up for lost cartilage by producing fluid in their joint. this leads to pain, swelling, and range of motion restriction.
Symptoms
- Pain described as dull or burning sensation
- Increased pain with increased joint use such as heavy grasping or gripping
- Morning pain and stiffness are typical
